Hi all,
HALLOWEEN WEEKEND
Thank you for keeping Halloween at home this year! After enjoying the festivities, please remind students that treats are to be enjoyed at home and not brought to school. Thanks for helping us keep things calmer here! ;-)
SCHOOL PHOTO ORDERS DUE 11/6
If you would like to order any of your child's photos, the orders are due next Friday, November 6. Please turn your orders in to the box in the office.
PLANTATHON LAUNCH NEXT WEEK
Our biggest fundraiser of the year is about to get underway! We are anticipating delivery of this year's Plantathon tree cards on Friday; they should be in your hands by mid-week next week. Each family will be asked to sell a MINIMUM of 30 cards-- we will need to sell more than that to meet our fundraising goals. This is a very well-received fundraiser, and Max Grover did the art for us this year, so you will not have any trouble selling your cards! We also have a sign up sheet on the bulletin board in the office for volunteers for the Plantathon day itself; while ALL families are expected to participate in the planting day, there are some extra jobs that we need to fill ahead of time. You'll be hearing a lot more about the Plantathon in the coming weeks, but if you have immediate questions, feel free to call our Plantathon coordinator, Betsy Carlson, at 301-5517.
WORK PARTIES COMING UP!
Mark your calendars for Wednesday, November 11 (we have no school that day) and Saturday, November 14. The Wednesday work party will be from 10 am-12 pm. The Saturday party will be from 9 am to 1 pm and will be a lunch potluck. We will be working outdoors, raking, trimming, weeding, spreading dirt, picking up rock and possibly starting on some fence building. There will be a crew leader to check in with both days. Wear warm clothes and bring work gloves!
THE GREAT CHANGE CHALLENGE
The Great Change Challenge is off to a great start! The kids are really excited about bringing in change and adding it to their class jars or to the large jar in the office. Some classes are using it as a math lesson! All the proceeds will be used to offer financial aid to new students, so take a look in those couch cushions... under the front seat of the car.... in your jacket pocket... and help us reach $1000! November 20 will be the LAST DAY to turn in your loose change before the kids head up to First Federal to count it all up!
PLANTATHON ENVELOPE STUFFERS NEEDED
Next Tuesday, 11/3 at 6-7:30 pm at Jude Rubin's house-- 3407 Eddy Street-- we could use a couple of helpers to put Plantathon cards and instructions in envelopes. This will be done with volunteers from other participating schools too-- we're looking for 2 people from Swan to participate. Call Jude at 774-1457 if you have questions about the envelope stuffing event.
SWAN SCHOOL PARENT BOOK CLUB
Dates have been set for the first Swan School Parent Book Club meetings-- we'll try two nights so the largest number of people can join in the discussion. The evenings will be Tuesday, December 1 at 7 pm and Thursday, December 3 at 6 pm. The book we'll be reading first is Unconditional Parenting: Moving from Rewards and Punishments to Love and Reason, by Alfie Kohn. It is available through Amazon.com at http://www.multiage-education.com/bookstore/swanbookclub.htm.
Enjoy a spooky weekend... and don't forget to "Fall Back" on Saturday night-- Daylight Savings Time is over! ;-)
