October 1, 2009
Hi all,
What a difference a week makes... it sure doesn't feel like summer anymore! Please be sure your child has a warm coat each day-- we go out to recess in ALMOST any weather!
WHERE IS EVERYONE?
It's been a little quiet here since the Navigators headed off to Olympic Park Institute this week. They'll be there through Friday, hiking and canoeing and exploring with the outdoor education staff at OPI. This morning the Adventurers started their day at 7:30 am, serving breakfast for attendees of the Port Townsend Marine Science Center Stewardship Breakfast. Following breakfast they will have an opportunity to meet and interview Eleanor Stopps (the 84-year-old wildlife activist is credited with getting the 400-acre Protection Island saved as a wildlife preserve). Before heading back to school they'll meet with some visiting Tibetan monks and learn about mandala sand painting. And that's all before lunch! On Monday the Adventurers will head down to Bainbridge Island for four days at IslandWood, a 255-acre outdoor learning center.
LOST AND FOUND
The Lost & Found is OVERFLOWING... please check it today! There are a few things left at the camp-out, in addition to the usual water bottles, coats, sweatshirts, etc. The Lost & Found is in the music room, near the 24th Street entrance.
NO SCHOOL NEXT FRIDAY
We will have no school on Friday October 9 due to the statewide teacher's Professional Development Day. The Swan School staff will be in Seattle at a day-long Pacific Northwest Association of Independent Schools conference.
VOLUNTEER HOURS
Your tuition invoices will be coming out today, and will show you where you are with your volunteer hours as of today. The balance shown is what will be due in June if you do not contribute any more time between now and then. This amount is NOT due this month; your hours will continue to be deducted from the balance all year. If you forgot to write down your time this month, don't worry-- write it down this month and it will be reflected on November's invoice.
