Welcome, new Swan School families, to our weekly update email... we won't start updating weekly until school starts, but this is the main way school news gets distributed, so please do read carefully!

Hope everyone is having a great summer! It certainly is flying by... from where I sit, it feels like school is going to start any second, so I thought I'd better send out an update with a few notices and reminders:

PROJECT PORCHLIGHT
We have an opportunity to participate in a community service project with Puget Sound Energy next Wednesday evening-- we'll meet at Chetzemoka Park at 5:30 pm and spend 2 hours going door-to-door and giving away free compact fluorescent light bulbs. We'd love a great turn out from Swan families! This is a great activity for kids to participate in. Please reply to this email ASAP if you can attend-- everyone who participates will get a free t-shirt and they need a count of participants by next Tuesday morning. Put on your Swan School attire and come help save energy!

REGISTRATION DAY
Mark your calendars for our annual back-to-school registration and work party day, August 29 from 10 am-4 pm. Registration itself will take about an hour, and then we'd love your help getting the school whipped into shape for the coming year. We have a list of repairs, things that need cleaning, organizing, etc. There's definitely something for everyone to do! Hours put in on this day will count toward your annual volunteer hours requirement, and this is a great way for new families to meet some new folks. You can stop by any time between 10 and 4. Please let me know if you can NOT make it that day-- we will need to make other arrangements to get your child(ren) registered.

SCHOOL SUPPLY LISTS
The teachers are getting excited about the start of school and are compiling their school supply lists. These will be posted on the web site early next week.

CALENDAR ITEMS
The school year calendar will be available at registration. Here are some dates you'll need to have on your calendar:

Registration is August 29 from 10-4.

New family orientation is September 1 at 5 pm.

First day of school is Wednesday, September 9.

First parent meeting of the year will be September 15 at 5 pm.

FIRST AID/CPR CERTIFICATION
The staff will be getting their 2-year First Aid/CPR certification in a one-day class from 9am-4pm on Thursday, September 3. We have room in the class for a few extra people if you're interested. Cost is $45 and includes the book. Let me know right away if you'd like to attend!

SCHOOL TOURS
We have room for more students in several of our classrooms, so if you have friends or neighbors who might consider Swan School for their children, please encourage them to call the school to arrange for a tour.
