March 31, 2008 Update

Dear Parents,

I'm often told that I'm a very positive person, always seen with a smile on my face. Some have even told me that I'm one of Swan School's best cheerleaders. Well, I'm sure there is probably some truth to that, after all I do find that Swan is one of the best elementary schools in the area, and I absolutely love teaching here.

The other day I was discussing the upcoming open house with my students and we began talking about all of the great things Swan School has to offer. The students' insights and perspectives were very interesting. I was especially intrigued when the students' began drawing comparisons between Swan and other schools they had attended in the past.

After our initial discussion, as has been tradition these past few years, the students began writing letters to prospective families to be posted at the open house on April 11th. Although most are in the first draft stage of the writing process, I thought you might be interested in seeing our school through the eyes of our students. With their permission I have copied a few of them below for you to enjoy.

Dear Future Swan School Kids,

I have been at Swan School for two years. My favorite subject is social studies. There are multiage classrooms and we get just right math. The teachers play with us at recess. On the playground there are lots of trees and bushes. Most schools have no swings but Swan does. There are lots of nice people. And we always have unique and different days. We know all the kids' names in the school. We call our teachers by their first names. I hope you come to Swan School.

Sincerely,
Maya

Dear Visitors,

Swan is a great school! There are lots of nice people here and they LOVE to make friends! There are no bullies here and we have three recess a day! Not only that but our teachers like to play with us at recess! We have lots of fun things here, like art and P.E. and Spanish! We have no bad cafeteria food. We have awesome good-looking teachers! And teachers go by their first name! We have lots of leaders here. Each year we get to go to this place called O.P.I. We stay there three days and there is great food! You get to go on great trails too! We have reading and writing. There is lots of music too, like choir, keyboard, and violin! When I first came to Swan School I didn't think I would like it, but soon I made lots of friends! My name is Shannon and I came here in the beginning of the year. I hope you come to Swan School and be my friend.

Shannon

Hi future students and parents,

Swan School is great! We get 3 recesses a day. That's about 540 recesses a year!!! For music we can have violin, piano, and choir! There is an awesome after school program. At recesses the teachers play with you! The students have a say on what we get to do. We get to have Spanish 2 or 3 times a week. We get to have art 1 or 2 times a week! We have two classroom mascots in the Navigators' room. They are named Kreacher and Toronto. We get to change their names every year.

Hope to see you next year :-)
Ella

Hi,

If you decide to some to Swan School they you've made a good choice.

Russ is our teacher, we call all our teachers by their first names. We have lots of fun, the usual science, math, social studies, spelling, etc. are extra fun here. And Spanish, art, choir, keyboard, violin, and even after school marimba, and early-morning-violin and keyboard, make Swan unique. ***

If you're in the Navigators class, then sometime, if you're lucky Russ will dance. :-)

Sincerely,
Anda
