May & June Extended Day Art Classes

May
Miniatures
This class will work with a variety of art materials, such as acrylic and tempura paint, paper collage, and clay sculpture. However, each project will be limited in size – no larger than 4″ x 4″ x 4″. We will create a gallery of miniatures! This is an opportunity for those detail-oriented artists to work on a small scale. See how small you can go!

Watercolor and More
Watercolor is a versatile medium that allows artists to mix and layer with a variety of other materials. In this class, we will practice traditional landscape and still-life painting, but only for the first week. We will then experiment with adding other elements to a watercolor base: blending with powdered pastel, drawing with India Ink, and making impressions with a stylus are just a few examples.

June
Inspired by the Masters
At the culmination of the school year, the after-school art class will explore many different artistic styles, and study a bit of art history, as well. Students will learn about a selection of well-known artists who are thought of as “masterful”: Monet, Klimt, Van Gogh, Picasso, O’Keefe, Kahlo, and more. This class will look at the life story of each artist as well as the masterpieces that each artist created. We will create our own masterpieces after learning about technique and content from the great artists who inspire us.

The deadline to register for June after-school art is Tuesday, May 31st. Drop-in students can sign up on the clip-board in the office. Also, please provide your child with a snack.
