The Discoverers

The Discoverers classroom will move to a ‘balanced calendar’ schedule for 2011-2012. The balanced calendar restructures the school calendar to provide balance between learning and vacation periods while still providing the same amount of time in school and out of school.

Preschool is where children usually have their first exposure to a more formalized learning environment. Here at Swan School we are focused on and dedicated to making your child’s first encounter with the school setting a safe and joyous experience.
In keeping with Swan School’s core values, the Discoverers classroom makes this first experience an exciting, fun-filled, magical journey. This is done in a secure and supportive environment where children’s physical, intellectual and emotional well-being is nurtured.
After many years of working with young children, I have found that a thematic approach helps focus attention, interest and understanding of the subject matter. We begin the school year with the unit “Discovering Me”, then branch out to “Families” and “Where I Live”. As the year progresses and I become more familiar with the children, their interest and strengths, we will explore new units of learning, while investing them in their learning process.
Children have a natural desire to learn. They approach the world with unvarnished curiosity and enthusiasm. As educators we share in the awe and joy that they experience on their journey of Discovery.

- Washable watercolor paint set (8 colors)
- 4 oz. bottle of Elmer’s white, washable school glue (no gel)
- 2 packages of glue sticks
- 2 rolls of Scotch brand 3M blue painters tape
- Reusable water bottle clearly marked with your child’s name

Local art supply store Akamai carries most of our needed supplies.
